What we know
Here’s what we know so far.
A man has died at Calderdale Royal Hospital after a fall from scaffolding from what is reported to be a height of 60 foot.
Police are currently investigating and the Health & Safety Executive have been notified.
The incident occurred at around 9am this morning and the man, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
Hospital staff had been treating him at the scene.
The incident happened around the back of the hospital near to the A&E department.
The scaffolding has now been fully removed and police have sealed off the area.
Detective Inspector David Shaw, of Calderdale District CID, said: “Police received a report at 9.04am this morning in relation to the death of a man following an incident at Calderdale Royal Hospital. The man, who is believed to have fallen from height whilst was working on-site, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later. Officers are making enquiries in to the circumstances surrounding the man’s death alongside the Health and Safety Executive.”
Statement from the police
Police have now officially confirmed a man has died. Here’s their full statement.

Health & Safety
It’s believed the Health & Safety Executive are now involved in the investigation which is currently being led by the police.
Scaffolding
All the scaffolding has now been removed from the site and the area has been sealed off. We’re still expecting a statement about the incident from the police shortly.
Location
Where the accident has happened is round the back of the hospital not far from its casualty department. Calderdale Royal Hospital first opened its doors to patients in April 2001 and was one of the country’s first PFI hospitals.
Time
We’re hearing the tragic incident took place between 8am and 9am this morning and the man is said to have fallen from a height of 60 feet.
Tragic news
I’m afraid we’re hearing that the man involved in the incident has sadly died from his injuries. More coming shortly from the police. Our thoughts are with the family of the man involved.
Emergency first aid
We’ve heard that staff from the hospital were seen carrying out emergency first aid on the worker at around 9am.
Fall
It is believed a man may have fallen from scaffolding or the scaffolding had even collapsed. We’re currently awaiting news on his condition.
Location
The entire car park is closed at the back of the hospital but people are being allowed to take their cars out.
Reports of serious incident
Reports are coming in of a serious incident at Calderdale Royal Hospital. It’s believed a worker has been seriously injured after an incident on scaffolding earlier today. Our reporter is heading down there now and a statement from the police is expected shortly. We’ll keep you posted.
