Remember that Marsden can be easily accessed by either bus or train as the village has its own railway station on the Huddersfield to Manchester line.

One of the village’s most popular pubs is The Shakespeare which offers live sports events on several large screens.

Live bands are featured every Saturday and there is always a warm and friendly reception with children welcome. This Bank Holiday Sunday The Shakespeare will feature 3wisemen with Leo Brazil Twitch.

Also in the village centre is Pennine Wholefoods which offers a range of natural products including bodycare, vitamins and supplements along with bio friendly cleaning products.

Opened in 1836, The Great Western Inn has been a welcome site for travellers on the Trans Pennine route. At the top of Standedge, it was built to service the needs of bargees as they travelled over the hill whilst their boats were legged through the tunnel, hundreds of feet below.

To this day, it offers good value meals and a wide range of drinks and is open Tuesday to Sunday and on bank holidays.

The Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre in Marsden is home to the longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel in Britain. Visitors can enjoy guided boat trips into the tunnel or enjoy the free exhibition to learn about the building of the tunnel.
