Our House reveals its story

IF you think you spy a few familiar faces when Hull Truck Theatre make a return visit to Huddersfield you’re not wrong.

Their production of Our House features a few folk off the telly when it is staged at the Lawrence Batley Theatre next week.

Taking the lead male role is DickenŠAshworth,ŠknownŠforŠhisŠperformancesŠasŠAlanŠPartridgeŠin Brookside,ŠGeoffŠHorton in Coronation Street and, most recently, as Bob Hope’s father Duke Woods in Emmerdale. He will Šbe Šreprising ŠtheŠ sameŠ roleŠ heŠ played ŠinŠ the ŠpremiereŠproductionŠofŠOurŠHouse back in 2001.

TheŠcastŠofŠsixŠŠincludesŠMatthewŠBooth, ŠalsoŠofŠEmmerdale fame, and Fiona Wass, who is a regular on BBC3’s Grown Ups.

Bafta-winning playwright John Godber wrote the play and is in the director’s chair for this national tour by Hull Truck.

The story features May – widow, mother and grandmother – as she packs up her northern council house after 45 years and heads off for a life in the sun.

As the van is loaded and the furniture and ornaments are boxed and sealed piece by piece, she remembers the hardship, laughter, sorrow and joy of the past for one last time.

A tapestry of memories unfolds in the touchingly funny journey through life’s ups and downs, birthdays and Christmases, childhood pets and neighbours from hell.
