Age old art of storytelling

STORY-TELLING is a craft that is as old as time. But it is also a timeless one, as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.
Next month, a trio of young storytellers arrives in Cleckheaton with a new company which aims to bring the age-old oral tradition of storytelling right up to date.
Annamation is a dynamic new storytelling company currently comprising Anna Conomos, Anna O’Brien and Susanna Willetts.
The trio, who met at Birmingham University, use a mix of words, acapella song and characterisation in a show called Tongue And Groove. Directed by storyteller Xanthe Gresham, the show offers a fast moving flow of stories which will include Greek myths and Russian, Iraqi, and Jewish folktales.
The performers became resident storytellers at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts and after winning awards in the Young Storyteller of the Year competition in 2005, they launched Annamation.
The company will be at Cleckheaton Library on Tuesday June 24 from 7.30pm with tales of loss and love, wisdom and folly, humour and passion.
It’s a performance which offers a fresh approach to the power of words. The event is part of Stories From The Tree of Life, a celebration of storytelling, literature and arts in Kirklees Library and Information Centres.
