Talent from Co-op art classes

MEMBERS of Huddersfield Co-operative art classes are holding their annual exhibition at Huddersfield Parish Church.

Tutor Betty Thornton has drawn some effective work from her pupils, such as Carole Hepworth’s Pollarded Trees in Tarn, France, which shows a nice sense of perspective and is delightfully atmospheric.

Sandra Knight captures the architecture of the Victoria Tower on Castle Hill, while Thelma Gardiner’s is perhaps the pick of the three images of the parish church.

I enjoyed Bernard Steel’s cat picture, Danger in the Garden, and also his Winter Journey, an old charabanc in the snow.

There is just one portrait, Joyce Woodward’s pencil impression of Edith Turner, which is characterful and successful.

The show ends tomorrow.
