IT MIGHT not seem like it but spring is just around the corner.

Not convinced? Then let singing teacher Jenny Goodman convince you with a workshop that chases away the chill just in time for one of the area’s most spectacular community festivals.

Marsden celebrates the return of spring each year with the Imbolc Festival which this year is on February 6.

Once again Jenny, who lives in the village, will be helping to add music to the fire and ice.

“It’s great to have this community festival on our doorsteps to remind us of the return of spring – especially when we’ve just been surrounded by snow and ice,” said Jenny.

“We tried contributing voices to the celebration for the first time last year and it added to the atmosphere with songs floating off in the icy sky to accompany the fire juggling”

Jenny is teaching songs celebrating the end of winter and the return of spring in workshops which continue at Marsden Mechanics on Monday and on February 1 at 7.30pm.

There will also be a workshop on the day of the festival from 10am until 1pm at the Mechanics Hall which is open to anyone who can’t make the evening sessions.

Both sets of workshops are supported by funding via the Imbolc organising committee and are offered at a reduced rate of £5/£2.50 per workshop. To ensure that the workshops are open to all, the songs are taught by ear so you don’t need to be able to read music and there will be no solo singing.

Get involved and enjoy singing at the Imbolc Festival on the evening of February 6.
