Christmas show round up

CHRISTMAS means a special panto time on the stage – and even Huddersfield Giants will be treading the boards.

Huddersfield Light Opera company is staging Dick Whittington at the Lawrence Batley Theatre from January 8 to 15, though there is no Wednesday performance. The show on Tuesday January 11 will feature several Huddersfield Giants players.

Oakes actor Mick Walter – known as Big Mick – is starring as one of the dwarfs in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Bradford Alhambra.

Comedian Billy Pearce plays the role of Muddles and Emmerdale actress Sian Reeves plays one of pantomime’s ultimate baddies – the Wicked Queen.

It is on now until Sunday, February 6, every day except Christmas Day.

Holmfirth’s Turn Again Theatre is staging The King’s New Clothes at Holmfirth Civic Theatre, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story of the vain king who is persuaded to wear an invisible suit of clothes.

The show starts on January 26 with tickets from Holmfirth Tourist Information office on 01484 222444 .

The Victoria Theatre in Halifax is staging Sleeping Beauty with local lad Thomas Milner from BBC’s Waterloo Road who appears as Prince Valiant.

It is on now until January 2.

Batley Town Hall is the home of Mother Goose where Carlinghow Theatre Company stage the tale from January 14 to January 16.

And Dewsbury Town Hall will welcome Dick Whittington from January 18 to January 22.

A Christmas Carol is at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in conjunction with Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company. The show is running from now until January 15.

And if that’s not your thing, then Aladdin is also on at the Playhouse until the same date.
