DON’T talk to anyone in Honley about local musical talent unless you have time to spare.
The village is awash with musical activity on the run-up to Christmas.
And Honley Ladies Choir are tuning up to be part of a series of concerts with the wider community.
A two-night musical showcase will take place with the younger members of the community getting in on the musical action too.
Emily Reaves, musical director of Honley Ladies Choir said: “When we first thought of inviting local groups to be part of our Christmas concert we had no idea that so many people would want to be involved.
“It soon became clear that a pair of concerts was the only way to include everyone who wanted to perform – and even then it was difficult to fit them all in.”
Honley’s children will be centre stage for the festive celebrations.
Children from the Infant School, budding carollers from the Junior School and a variety of groups from the High School are already busy rehearsing.
“It’s fantastic that so many kids are taking part,” said Emily.
“It’s vital that the next generation gets to feel the buzz that comes when you are part of such a big event.
“We are really looking forward to seeing them perform and hope they will have a great time. It’s what kids need to do.”
Julie Haigh, headteacher at Honley Junior School, said the children were preparing for their show on Wednesday, and also a whole school event at Honley Parish Church on Friday.
She said: “Our school choir is singing at the High School on Thursday, they’ve certainly been busy rehearsing.
“And the whole school will be involved in our own service on Friday at the church.
“All of the school will either be singing or performing. They’re really looking forward to it.”
Leigh Baker, head of music at Honley High School, has been a key player in getting everyone together.
“It’s a celebration of one village,” he says. “It’s amazing that one small village can be so musical, but the talent is here.”
