IF YOU are new to textiles, heres a workshop that might just get you interested.
Artist Laura Slater is hosting a two-day workshop at the West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield next weekend (August 11 and 12).
Laura creates bespoke pattern, textile surfaces and products printed by hand. She is currently Creative Practitioner at the Hepworth Wakefield and lectures at the University of Bolton.
Laura will teach people the technique of mark marking and how to develop designs into screen printed textiles.
The workshops are designed with beginners in mind, she said.
I aim to give participants an experience of the design process encouraging experimentation with drawing and mark marking tools and media.
They can also find inspiration through stencil and photographic screen printing techniques onto cloth.
Designs could be perfect for cushions, wall art or other soft furnishings around the home - giving your home that homemade feel, said Laura.
The weekend costs just £35 which is a special offer price as part of Uprising, a year-long series marking the 200th anniversary of the Luddite Uprisings.
The Lawrence Batley Theatre, which has been programming the Uprising events, has tamed up with West Yorkshire Print Workshop for this special workshop offer.
