John Tilbury’s concert of Cardew is sold out! John of course plays beautifully however perhaps the real highlight for everyone is his on stage talk immediately afterwards. At the end there is a rush to the shop to purchase John’s recently published book on the composer. It becomes a real challenge to get him out of the building and into a taxi in time for his train as there is a queue of people waiting for him to sign his book.
Colin Hicks from the Quebec Embassy in London has arrived to greet Quatuor Bozzini who will perform the third of their three concerts of American composer James Tenney’s music. The intention was to have a launch today for their new CD of Tenney’s work which they have recently recorded, however the audience reaction to the previous two concerts has been so positive that we have sold out of the CD!
Day 6 I manage to sit down for a proper meal for perhaps the first time. Then it is down to Bates Mill for the 6 Piano Installations which are both extremely clever and also a little humorous!
An almost perfect day rounds off with a wonderful version of Stockhausen’s Stimmung performed by Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart at ST Paul’s Hall which receives three ovations.
I resist the temptation to go for a drink with the ensemble – instead I settle for a hot toddy and relatively early to bed!
