Music: Singer Gavin out to make the big time

SINGER-songwriters seem to be ten a penny nowadays – but in among the much-hyped acts there are a few amazing talents working quietly away.

One of them is Gavin Thorpe, a West Country singer-songwriter who knows only too well that a young man with a guitar is no big deal today.

He also knows that being ruggedly good-looking is no longer an advantage – it’s simply necessary in today’s image-conscious industry.

But fortunately, Thorpe is also blessed with a voice that can break hearts from an auditorium away and he knows that lasting success can only come from one thing ... great songs.

Which is why he is gaining a burgeoning reputation, despite not yet being a household name or the hottest chart sensation.

This could all change with a release of his debut single, Out Of Place, which comes out on indie label IRL on November 19.

It will only be available as a download but will provide a tantalising taster for Thorpe’s album, which will come out in February next year.

He will be promoting the single with a UK tour, which started on November 2. It will bring him to Night and Day in Manchester on November 22 and the Barfly in Liverpool on November 29.
