Big year ends on a high

MANCHESTER group The Courteeners are heading out on a UK tour to mark the end of a successful year.

The indie band are touring this month and will visit The Cockpit in Leeds on Wednesday and a big hometown show the Ritz in Manchester on the following day.

This year has been a big one for the band, who have only been together since early 2006.

They formed the group just six months before making their mark at the In The City festival in Manchester in 2006.

They became a name to be reckoned with in the North of England for some months, selling out Manchester Academy 3 prior to signing a record deal or even releasing a note.

In May, they delighted Huddersfield crowds as the first band on stage at the People’s Party on St George’s Square, headlined by The Ordinary Boys.

They made their first London appearance in August and played a sold-out gig in the capital.

The band have been labelled the next big thing by Radio 1 and NME, with singles getting airplay – including latest track Acrylic, which came out in October.

After the tour ends, the band will head straight into studio to begin recording their debut album.
