The student party which comes hangover free

CHRISTMAS is coming early at Huddersfield University Student Union’s newest venue.

Sugar Brown’s – an alcohol-free entertainment zone – is hosting a Christmas themed night tomorrow.

From 7pm, there will be a Christmas sing-a-long session, prize giveaways and entertainment from Alice Nicholls and music student Sarah Quinn, who wowed crowds at the venue’s opening night on October 29.

This time she will be bringing with her friends from the university’s folk group.

Sugar Brown’s is located upstairs at the Student Union on the university’s Queensgate campus.

By day, it is a cafe which goes by the name of The Lounge.

But managers realised its night-time potential was going untapped and and canvassed students on what it should be used for.

Cath Henshaw, commercial services manager at the union, said: “We do a lot of market research into what students want and we felt they were looking for an alternative space to come and chill out and relax or have a meeting without being sat in a noisy bar.”

The cafe opens 6pm to midnight seven days a week, but only has entertainment on certain days.

Entry is free and is open to non-students.
