Roger moves off the beaten track

FORGET your big arenas – Brighouse singer/songwriter Roger Davies is preparing to take music to the rarely reached venues around Huddersfield.

Roger is to play a special gig at Birdsedge Village Hall on Saturday, February 23, as part of its season of acoustic artists.

While many bands value only big venues, Roger likes to play off the beaten track.

As well as playing Birdsedge, he is heading out on a tour of folk clubs, acoustic venues and folk festivals over the summer, including Wath, Holmfirth, Crawley and Shepley.

When he’s got time off from playing live, Roger will be working on songs for his third album. His previous albums, Littletown and Northern Trash, feature tracks inspired by the Huddersfield area.

One of these tracks, Huddersfield Town, had a video placed on YouTube and received 1,300 hits in under a month. You can also check out the track on our Fresh Music website. Simply go to www.examiner.co.uk, click on the Fresh and Features tab, then Fresh Music and play.

Tickets for Roger’s Birdsedge gig, which starts at 7pm, cost £7 and are available from 01484 606230. You can also visit www.myspace.com/rogerdaviesmusic.
