In a nutshell: Jack Black stars as a man who somehow becomes magnetic and erases the movies in his friend’s video store. To make amends, they remake each movie and rent them out to surprising acclaim.

THE premise sounded great – two goofy guys remake classic movies on a budge. But in reality this so-called “comedy” never really lives up to its expectations.
It’s dreary, muddled and takes far too long to get going. The only funny moments are where the duo create their bootleg versions of the likes of Ghostbusters and RoboCop, but unfortunately these moments are few and far between and are dwarfed by a dull plot with a schmaltzy all-American ending.
Even comedy favourite Jack Black and impressive names like Danny Glover and Sigourney Weaver can’t hold together this yawnsome affair which, ironically, never really figures out what kind of movie it wants to be.

IN theory this film should have been a great excuse for Jack Black to parody classic films, at least this is what the trailer led me to believe.
Unfortunately, the film took so long to get to the point where they start remaking the films that I had almost died of boredom (it may only be half an hour but the film is so dull up to this point that it felt much longer).
The first remake is Ghostbusters and this raised a few laughs, but subsequently the amount we see of the remakes is reduced with each film and then dispensed with altogether, as they decide to make a new film about a local jazz musician from the 30s.
The main problem with “Be Kind Rewind” is that there is perhaps 30 minutes of film with potential surrounded by an hour of uninspiring dross.
Unless you are an insomniac avoid it like the plague!
