FORMER wrestler Lita is used to working a crowd. But the ex-WWF and WWE women’s champion is no longer impressing fans with her moves and physique.

She’s using her musical talents instead, as frontwoman of Lita and The Luchagors.

Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas and her band will play at the Parish in Huddersfield on Friday .

Atlanta-based Lita retired from the ring in 2007 and decided to turn her attention to her second passion in life – old school punk music.

She formed her punk band The Luchagors with her guitarist boyfriend Shane Morton and they released their self-titled debut album.

The name of the band is a nod to Lita’s wrestling past – Luchagors are Mexican wrestlers.

But the 32-year-old says she is keen for her musical career to be far removed from her time in the ring.

She says band The Lunachicks 7 Seconds are “the main influence in my life”.

Music has certainly long been a passion, as she has played bass in bands before.

But this is her first outing as frontwoman.

She said: “This is the first time I haven’t been able to hide behind an instrument.

“I never fronted a band before, but that’s something that comes into play from having wrestled and knowing how to entertain a crowd.”

Despite Lita’s personal fame, especially in the US, her band is very much a grassroots project.

They have decided not to bother with record labels and slick PR teams, instead using street promotion teams and internet publicity.

She said: “We started this band before I retired and I could have used a lot of connections with the WWE to get more corporate backing.

“But my whole thing was not feeling so owned. I didn’t want to transfer what I was doing to music from wrestling. I wanted it to be a completely different experience, or what's the point in changing?

“I loved all the experience and my time in the WWE. But this has always been a part of my life as well.

“With as much neat stuff I've done in my life, this is something I couldn’t not do.”

The down-to-earth band even haul their own equipment around – which shouldn’t really be a problem for super-strong Lita!

However, her time in wrestling has not left her unscathed.

At just 32, she has a reconstructed knee, five bad discs in her back and pain from breaking her neck in 2002.

But she still gives her all on stage.

“I’m definitely pretty physical and crazy, I like playing off people.

“I’ll have people I know are wrestling fans and I’ll take full advantage of that and jump on them in the middle of a song.”

So the front row of the Parish crowd had better be prepared for some rough rock action!

It will be Lita’s second visit to the venue and last time she and the band received a great welcome.

This time, The Luchagors will supported by The Dead Reckoning, formerly known as Buzzkill and Leeds band The Sewer Suckers.

Doors open for the gig at 8pm. For more details or tickets, contact The Parish on 01484 421950.
