1) Man killed in Brighouse bike accident.

A YOUNG motorcyclist died in a road accident on Friday evening.

His black Kawasaki Ninja bike was in collision with a black Vauxhall Astra at the junction of Halifax Road and Garden Road in Brighouse at 7.45pm.

A crowd, including friends and family of the man, gathered round as firefighters and paramedics tried to save his life.

2) Textile worker’s inquest

A TEXTILE worker died after being crushed by a huge baling machine, an inquest heard.

Gary Lee, who was 40, suffered fatal injuries as he tried to clean the baling machine – used to compress wool – at Westwood Yarns in Holmfirth.

He suffered a broken spine, as well as numerous other fractures and severe cuts to his upper body, in the incident on January 3 last year.

3) Grave vandalised

THE GRAVE of a father killed in a high speed crash has been vandalised – a little more than two weeks before the anniversary of his death.

Leigh Sedgwick was killed when his car hit a lamp-post, on Bradford Road, Brackenhall, at around 6am on July 16, 2005.

Leigh, 28, of Bradley, was laid to rest at Woodhouse Cemetery, Deighton, following a procession led by a horse-drawn hearse on July 22 2005.

4) Woman’s speed camera battle

Vikki Fielden received a £60 fixed penalty notice after she was clocked by a camera driving at 36mph in a 30mph zone at New Mill Road in Brockholes on June 4, 2006.

The Sheffield woman was returning home after visiting friends. But her husband, Dr Ian Fielden, a research scientist at Sheffield Hallam University, believed the camera could not have recorded an accurate reading because it was situated on a bend in the road.

5) Flooring company row

INVESTIGATORS are looking into the dealings of a Huddersfield flooring company that has left customers thousands of pounds out of pocket.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards wants to know if Thongsbridge company Warmawood broke consumer laws before it went bust.
