A FORMER Huddersfield woman who now lives in the Lake District would love to hear more about her family.
Margaret O’Grady (nee Hepworth) is especially anxious to hear from anyone who knew her grandad, George Dinkel, who was born in Germany.
She said: "My grandad lived at 13 Longroyd Place, Paddock, probably when he had the butcher’s shop at Longroyd Bridge.
"He was born on August 16, 1883, in Kurzelsau, Württemberg, the youngest son of Johann Georg Dinkel and Catherine (nee Bierman). He had two older sisters and an older brother.
"He came to England with his older brother Friedrich in about 1897 having already trained as a pork butcher with certificates in Germany.
"He got married to Florence Siddall after living with German relatives in Huddersfield. I think there were his mother’s relatives.’’
George was kept in the Isle of Man during World War I and by then he had six children and had a farm called Flash House Farm Fartown.
He was released from the Isle of Man on September 5, 1919 to 24 Main Road, Primrose Hill.

He went to work in a butcher’s shop in Huddersfield and later had one more daughter.
In April 1939 he became a nationalised Briton.
He died aged 80 in 1963 having never returned to Germany. MarMarjorie added: "My grandma Florence would never let the family speak German.
"No-one in the family spoke much about the past so all the information is from documents found after my mother died and she was the last one to die in the family so no questions could be answered first hand.’’
