Fashion and beauty: Out with uniforms and in with style - college girls prepare for a new chapter in their lives
A new hairstyle makes all the difference and the girls were keen to sample the latest colouring and styling treatments.
Charlotte’s long, straight, blonde hair was given a Redken brightening treatment using products from the Blonde Glam range. “It will brighten up her colour and then I’m going to give her a texturised cut,’’ said Jane. “She’ll also have a new Ghd finishing treatment so that her hair has body but no curl. A lot of girls don’t want flat, straightened hair any more so we have a technique that creates volume,’’ she added.
Emily’s quite short red hair is a legacy of her high school prom. “I had it done like this for the prom but now I’d like it shorter and edgier,’’ she said.
Jane decided that a demi-permanent shade, again from Redken, would give Emily’s hair a punchier colour without changing it from red.
“Demi-permanent colours, brighteners and enhancers are cost-effective treatments for this age group and they are more like conditioning colours so they don’t damage hair. They give it a great gloss and shine,’’ explained Jane.
Sara’s long, naturally curly hair, had already been colour treated and needed careful handling. “We’ll be using a new ammonia-free semi-permanent colour on Sara because it’s healthier for long hair and gives a really high shine,’’ said Jane.
“Then we’ll work with the curls and just finish them using a special technique with the straighteners.’’
Their ultra-fashionable styles in place, the girls were given the latest make-up looks (using Italian brand Royal Effem cosmetics) by Michaela, who also offered Emily the chance to have a set of individually-placed false eyelashes. The lashes are quick to apply and last a few days.
“The really high fashion look this year is quite natural and fresh-faced with rosy cheeks,’’ said Michaela. “Which is ideal for everyday college wear.’’
The girls agreed that wearing less make-up during the day meant that they could look different when they went out in the evening.
“We wouldn’t want to look the same all the time,’’ said Charlotte.
But they definitely wanted to look their best for their first week. “It’s a fresh start,’’ said Sara, “so it’s important for us to feel good about ourselves.’’
So how did they feel about their change of style?
“It’s fantastic,’’ they said. “We all look great,’’ added Sara.
