Fashion and beauty: Mary Locker's mini-makeover

“Use your ring finger to apply cream gently so you are not stressing the skin too much and give your face a bit of a massage. Take the cream around the eyes in a C shape, which acts as lymphatic drainage and helps reduce puffiness.’’ she added.
Mary, who used to work in the outpatient ambulance service but is now retired, says she has always cared for her skin but needed advice on make-up.
Harriet explained that as skin ages, particularly in the eye area, it becomes thinner and more translucent.
She advises the use of products, such as Eye Fix, which help eye shadows to glide on more smoothly, allowing even coverage, and Lip Fix to stop lipstick ‘bleeding’ into fine lines..
She gave Mary a natural-looking make-up, using neutral shades of eyeshadow with a hint of shimmer. As Mary has fair eyelashes and eyebrows, Harriet used a eyebrow pencil and mascara to ‘frame’ and enhance her eyes. The look was finished with Perfect Flamingo lipstick, as Mary says she’s a “lipstick person’’, and Shimmering Pink lip gloss.
Mary says she has shied away from asking the help of cosmetic consultants in the past but found her session with Harriet extremely useful.
“I think people don’t want to approach us because they think they are going to get talked into buying a lot of products,’’ says Harriet.
“But we want ladies to come and try out things and go away for a day or so to see how they feel about them.’’
“I love what Harriet has done,’’ said Mary “and I wouldn’t be afraid to ask for help in the future.’’
