1 Vegetables – Sow some extra short rows of carrots now for a late summer harvest. Take cuttings of woody herbs such as Sage, Rosemary, Bay and Thyme over the next few weeks to give you some replacement or extra plants for next year. Sow some pots of parsley, coriander and basil on a kitchen windowsill to give you fresh, easy to use herbs.

2Fruit – Prune out older stems of blackcurrants and gooseberries after you have harvested the last fruits. Pick off any strawberries showing signs of botrytis (grey mould) and put them in the dustbin to prevent the spores from re-infecting others. Keep an eagle eye open for woolly aphid colonies on apples and cut them out or rub them off as soon as you see them.
