A DANCE class for pre-school children is boogying its way to the top of the table.

The Boogie Babes group, run by Rastrick mum Lisa McCann, has won an award for its work by the UK’s biggest website for mums.

Lisa only set the group up after needing somewhere to take her own daughter to dance.

Now she’s been voted the best in Calderdale.

Boogie Babes dance and movement class sees parents and grandparents bond with their little ones by singing, dancing and playing.

It won the top prize in the national awards from the UK’s biggest parenting site Netmums.com.

Mum-of-two Lisa, from Rastrick, said: "I’m delighted our class has been crowned the best in Calderdale.

"The Netmums award means so much as it’s voted for by the parents.

"I love running the class and it’s fantastic to know the parents and children enjoy it as much as I do.

"A special thank you must go to mum-of-two Rachel for nominating me."

Boogie Babes was formed when Lisa’s eldest daughter, Eliza, now five, was nine-months-old.

She was looking for a friendly and flexible dance group to take Eliza along to but couldn’t find anything suitable – so Lisa used her entertaining background to set one up herself.

"We usually get about 15-20 mums, dads or grandparents coming along with the little ones. We do a warm-up and then a few songs and use pompons," she added.

"I’ve got a big parachute I use and the children dance with teddies and throw them and it’s all done to music.

"It’s a different way of building their confidence and getting them interacting with their peers.

"It does improve fitness but the emphasis is on getting them moving and dancing with other children and having some fun."

Netmums founder Siobhan Freegard added: "Pre-school classes are one of the very best ways to bond with your child and provide hours of fun for all the family.

"We were very impressed by the high standard of classes in Calderdale but Lisa’s Boogie Babes class was a worthy winner."

Lisa, a zumba instructor who also runs the Limelight Theatre School with husband James, runs the classes on a pay as you go style – giving parents flexibility of when they attend.

The classes are held at 10am on Wednesdays at Central Methodist Church, Brighouse and also at 1.30pm on Tuesdays at The Big Blue Frog in Halifax and each session costs just £4.
