Bands ready to rock at Livestock

FOUR bands made up of music students from Huddersfield Technical College are preparing to make their debut performances at The Parish this month.

The bands – Horseaholic, Cat-astrophy, Parrot Troopers and Tequila Mockingbird – will play a gig entitled Livestock at the venue on Kirkgate on May 23.

All four groups are made up of second year students from the BTEC National Diploma Music Practice course at Huddersfield Technical College.

As part of the course, the students had to form bands and work on original material and covers from different music genres.

They then had to organise and promote their own showcase gig, as part of their final project.

Jonny Shaw is bass player and vocalist in the band Horseaholic.

He said: “All the bands have been together for about six months. Individually, some of the members have played gigs but we’ve never really done gigs as college bands.

“This will be a first and it should be really good.”

Each band has a slightly different style.

Horseaholic – also featuring Tom Mann on guitar and Tom Weavill on drums – concentrate on prog rock and metal.

Cat-astrophy are a funk and electro band, featuring Daniella Kay on keys, Adam Russ on guitar, Dwayne Hart and Nathaniel Lodge on bass, drums and vocals.

Parrot Troopers are Becky Smith, on vocals and effects, bassist Tom Lancaster, guitarist Justin Walsh and drummer Lee Robinson. Their sound is described as funky pop.

Tequila Mockingbird are a rock band, made up of vocalist Shaun Ellerker, guitarist Aaron Burton, drummer and singer Richard Garside and bassist and singer Dan Harlow.

Tickets for the gig, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £3 in advance from band members or The Parish, or £3.50 on the door.
