Still time to enter!
Jun 13 2008 by Val Javin, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
WITH just a week left to the closing date for entries for our Garden Of The year competition there is still time to enter.
Entries close next weekend, so you just have time to get yours to us. Snap a quick picture or dig out one from last year and get it to us, along with your details filled in on the coupon below.
Last year friends of Carol Puszkiewicz persuaded her to enter her lovely Outlane garden in the competition.
They thought that the acre-plus plot that she gardens with husband Andy on the edge of moors and farmland high in the Pennines was a winner. They were right.
A delighted Carol was our outright winner at her first attempt.
We are now looking for a gardener to take on the challenge and win our top prize, which includes a £500 Examiner reader travel voucher which we will provide for you to spend on whisking yourself and a guest off for a well- deserved break.
As in past years there are three categories to make sure that whether you have a collection of pots, a courtyard garden or acres of herbaceous borders and vegetable plots your garden will fit in somewhere.
For our overall winner there is that Examiner reader travel voucher, plus the cut-glass Examiner Trophy, which will grace their home as Garden Of The Year winner for a year.
Sponsors Armitage’s Garden Centres are again supporting the competition, offering garden vouchers worth £100 to the winners of each category.
Second prize winners will collect £75 and third-placed gardeners £50.
Long-term sponsors Waterstones bookshops are back with us, too, and have come up with a super gardening book, Gardeners’ Question Time; Plant Chooser by Bob Flowerdew, John Cushnie, Matthew Biggs and Bunny Guinness. It’s worth £16.99 and each of our nine winners will get one.
So what do you have to do to win any of our prizes?
It’s simple. Take a picture of your garden looking its best, then fill in an entry form (the one on this page or on our gardening pages tomorrow) and send it to us.
Send both to Garden Of The Year Competition, Features Department, Huddersfield Daily Examiner, PO Box A26, Queen Street South, Huddersfield HD1 3DU.
You can also drop your entry in at our office on Queen Street South.
Remember, entries close on June 21 and judges aim to be out judging gardens across Huddersfield and district during the week beginning July 14.
