Capturing the unusual

THE things you see when you haven’t got a gun.
Fortunately, photographer Malcolm Firth had a camera with him when he and artist Geoff Beaumont were out walking in Farnley Tyas and saw an unusual site.
An old bath is often put out in a field and filled with water to provide refreshment for horses and cattle.
But a bath with taps?
“It seemed so unusual,” said Malcolm. “Mind you, it took us ages to persuade the cow to get in it.”
Well, it was a hot day, so why not? A nice splash about with the cold tap turned on full … ??
It was only then that I caught the drift of Malcolm’s conversation.
“The cow wasn’t in the bath, was it?”
He had mocked up the picture, which had me fooled. But it still left me wondering – why had the farmer left the taps on?
