Bring back the road sweepers

I REMEMBER the days when Mr Mitchell (road sweeper) of Honley Urban District Council cleared our area every Friday.

He swept the pavements and the gutters and lifted the grates and cleared them out, armed with a brush and shovel. No weeds in the gutters or wall bottoms. No wonder that we have floods these days if drains are only cleaned every 10 months.
