Parking row

MORE dust is flying over the hugely contentious issue of parking fines.

On the one side is a parking campaign group which says Kirklees Council is hitting motorists in some areas with illegal parking fines, on the other are the council themselves who say that as soon as they know parking zones are not compliant with the regulations they are out within days to put it right.

Whoever is right on this issue, one thing is certain. Motorists are under enough financially pressure without worrying about whether where they park is legal or not. There should be clear, unequivocal signage which complies with the law. Break the rules and you should pay up - and that applies to both sides of this particular argument.

If there is any doubt over the legality of certain parking areas, shouldn’t an amnesty at least be declared until it is properly sorted out?
