So how local do you think is local?
Jul 4 2008 by Val Javin, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
THIS is a local newspaper for local people. It could almost be from the hit TV comedy The League of Gentlemen.
But the Examiner’s coverage of other events in our West Yorkshire region seems to have got up the noses (and keyboards) of some of our more regular posters.
Their main gripe seems to be that the news in the Examiner is not 100 percent Huddersfield based and may occasionally take in fringe areas of Calderdale, Bradford and Dewsbury.
Dismayed, of, Dalton wants to know: “Why is there regularly news about Calderdale Council in the Huddersfield Examiner?”
While Imnotstopping thinks it is a shame that the paper isn’t more local. I m notstopping, who lives in America, said: “There are a few here (USA) like "New Times" available free in different editions for different places, and in New York "The Village Voice."
Emperorj added his or her thoughts. They said: “There is always something to write about in Huddersfield. Sadly of late, it is all bad. Why can't we have headlines like" Huddersfield magistrate jails robber for 3 years, and must repay the victim for ALL taken.
Or "Police praised for listening to residents and acting on their behalf. KNH evict dealers and will not pay for private sector housing for them. Layabouts must report each morning at 8am for community service work until they find jobs. Any more suggestions?”
Chigley felt our coverage of the death of a motorbiker in Todmorden was too far out of Huddersfield. The Halifax-based poster said about the location of the 58-word report: “About as far as it gets really.”
