MICROSOFT billionaire Bill Gates had some handy advice and lessons for teenagers this week when asked to speak at an American high school.
I wish I could claim his words as my own because they are so apt.
“Before you were born your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills and listening to you talk about how cool you are,’’ he said.
And he added: “Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but LIFE has not.’’
The rest of his speech was a mine of truisms and realities for what he clearly believes is a new generation of cosseted youth.
But it was the end that perhaps said it all: “Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one!’’
