And it worked for Andy as well!

HEAD teacher Andy Taylor had tried conventional physiotherapy and chiropractic for his chronic back problem. But in the end it was Bowen therapy that gave him relief.

Andy, a sports enthusiast – climber, runner and cyclist – developed back pain after training for a 24-hour running marathon and suffered for nearly three years.

He said: “I’d been doing a lot of off-road training, but it was while I was on the climbing wall that my back finally went

“I twisted and ended up in an S-shaped spasm. It was horrible,’’ added Andy, 38, who lives in Holmfirth.

The injury put an end to his running career and meant that he could no longer climb at the higher levels. He was told that he either had a disc or sacroiliac joint problem, but physiotherapy didn’t help.

A friend and former professional rugby player suggested he go to see Bill Crean.

”I’d never heard anything about it before, but my friend doesn’t suffer fools lightly and rated Bill. When you’re in pain you’ll try anything, so I went along. Even after the first treatment I felt straighter,’’ said Andy.

“He can’t cure me, but I’m now able to climb at the level I was before and in November I’m off to climb in the Himalayas. I just go back every couple of months for a maintenance treatment and I’ve started doing Pilates regularly to help keep my back straight,’’ he added.

Instead of running Andy now goes cycling.
