Biographer Bill on his way!

BILL MITCHELL has been a Dales country journalist for more than 60 years and in retirement has written many books about Yorkshire and its people.

Last year he won the Outdoor Writers’ and Photographers’ Guild Golden Eagle award.

His latest book, 80 Years in the Dales, is about famous Daleswoman Hannah Hauxwell, whose quiet, austere lifestyle was featured in a Yorkshire Television programme, Too Long A Winter.

She was an instant, if unexpected, celebrity and has since made many public appearances, both in Yorkshire and further afield.

Hannah is known for her modesty, charm and simple wisdom, honed by life as a North Pennine farmer.

To write her biography Bill visited Hannah regularly and sat alongside her on public platforms when she invited questions.
