Chance to go green for your white wedding

KIRKLEES is to play host to what is claimed to be the UK’s first green wedding show.
It’s all thanks to three businesswomen who have recognised that many brides want to add a hint of green to their white wedding.
The Lovely Green Wedding event will showcase wedding and event suppliers whose approach to business features an ethical or eco-friendly twist.
The event, to be held on Sunday, October 19, at Low Farm in Norristhorpe, is abandoning the traditional wedding show format by putting on hay rides, live music, produce sampling and a fair trade tea in a beautiful rural setting.
The fair is the brainchild of Claire Ellis of Weddings and Wellies, Dee Grismond of Cherrygorgeous wedding stationery, and photographer Olivia Brabbs.
Claire runs a deli and catering business and arranges weddings at the farm, which is run by her husband Duncan.
Through receiving increasing inquiries about the ethical policies of their own businesses, the three women realised there was a big gap in the market for an eco-conscious wedding fair that brought together green service providers under one roof.
“We realised that many brides-to-be have green lifestyles and they don’t see why their wedding should be any different,” says Claire.
“We felt that as ethical wedding suppliers it was our duty to showcase the green options that are available in Yorkshire and prove that an eco-friendly wedding can be stylish, fun and cost-effective as well as ethical.”
Some of the businesses on display will include Firenza floral design, Alexandra House Spa in Huddersfield, Elegant Chairs, Caked Up and Form Bespoke Jewellery.
The day will be a non-profit making event with all the proceeds donated to Radio Aire’s Cash for Kids charity which raises money to benefit sick, disabled and underprivileged children in West Yorkshire.
The afternoon will run from 1-4pm and incudes organic make-overs.
Tickets are £10 each or £15 for two which includes an organic fair trade afternoon tea served on vintage china.
