Forum: Manners matter at the shops

THEY’RE not as good as they used to be.

They never get a proper airing; especially from the young. Most people seem to say that manners have been forgotten as some anachronistic throwback.

Idlejohn had a visit to Huddersfield town centre and the results were not uniformly positive...

He said: “Just returned from Huddersfield after being ‘persuaded’ by my better half that ‘I really would enjoy it when I got there.’

“Well I didn't! The ignorance of folk in my home town was appalling to behold. From the little white haired lady who I held the door open for in BHS and who breezed past with no word of thanks to the snooty woman in Marks and Spencer who couldn’t open her mouth to say thank you when I put the next customer divider down for her and picked up the item that she dropped off the conveyor! “All I got was an icy stare that would have frozen the brass monkey’s bits off!

“The pushing, shoving and unwillingness to give way on the pavement even when you are laden down with bags was a revelation and that was just the elderly!

“In comparison the younger people were a world different and was the only highlight of the ‘trip’.

“It will be a while before I venture down into the town centre again so don’'t rush to ‘redevelop’ it on my behalf KMC!”

Talking of KMC, some posters want to know if the council’s ruling body will be open to the public, who can interject.

Calderdale will be having open days where members of the public (who let’s not forget voted the councillors into power) can ask questions of the cabinet members.

Emperorj seems to have his own answer: “They already do so, but they ignore all questions they don’t like, can’t hear, as the mikes don’t work, or just look down their noses at you and go on to the next question. Wheel Tappers and Shunners club, Kirklees style.”
