Try yoga says MS sufferer Lynette

GENTLE exercise such as yoga is known to be helpful for people with infirmities and neurological illnesses.

Lynette Kelly, 61, an MS sufferer since she was in her twenties, has had a lifelong interest in the eastern mental and physical discipline.

Nine years ago she decided to train as a teacher so she could help others with MS and neurological problems.

She now runs a weekly self-help yoga group in the Colne Valley.

She says: “Yoga keeps your mind stable, helps you to breathe properly and keeps joints and muscles supple.

“Our oldest member is 83 and the youngest is in her thirties; it’s suitable for everyone.’’

The group meets for yoga and a relaxation session at 10.30am on Wednesday mornings in the United Church of the Healing Ministries at The Elms, New Street, Cowlersley.

Lynette, who began studying yoga nearly 40 years ago, has the relapsing/remitting type of MS.

Last year she temporarily lost her sight and took early retirement from her job with the Inland Revenue.

She says yoga has been a great help in dealing with the physical and emotional problems created by living with a chronic illness.
