FRESH: Acoustic acts are back at the Parish
LEAVE them wanting more – a key principle of entertainment. And it’s one which the gig team at Huddersfield venue the Parish have kept to.
They gave music fans a taste of top acoustic performers back in March and have kept them hanging for a repeat performance ever since.
But acoustic music lovers only have to wait a little longer, for the next Parish acoustic night will be held on June 17.
And it’s a line-up worth waiting for.
Performing will be Ben Childs, of Sonic Boom 6, Joe Tilston of Random Hand, Paul Morricone of Huddersfield band The Scaramanga Six and Huddersfield singer-songwriter Tim Malster.
Tim Malster is the only performer on the bill to have played at the first Parish acoustic event, back in March.
It was his solo debut and his material surprised gig-goers, who knew him primarily as either a band vocalist or sound engineer on the Huddersfield scene.
Unlike Tim, the other three performers on the June 17 bill are not usually seen solo.
The acoustic set will be rare chance to see them perform alone, in their own unique styles.
Ben Childs is guitarist with Sonic Boom 6, who will play the main stage of this year’s Leeds and Reading Festivals.
While Sonic Boom 6 focus on punk sounds, when he goes solo Ben likes to play acoustic folk and reggae.
Joe Tilston is also best known as a guitarist.
He’s found renown with ska band Random Hand.
But what isn’t as widely known is that he comes from a family with a long history of involvement with folk music.
Like Ben and Joe, Paul Morricone usually appears as part of a much bigger musical group.
He is vocalist with Huddersfield’s self-styled ‘evil pop’ group The Scaramanga Six, which also features his brother Steven.
The band currently have a new album out, entitled Songs Of Prey.
As well as singing, Paul is also an accomplished guitarist.
While he has a style that’s all his own away from his bandmates, you can still expect to see plenty of the inventiveness and edge that Scaramanga Six fans know and love.
