1)Horror attack on Huddersfield cricket star Chris Thompson

CRICKETER Craig Thompson has lost the ability to talk after he was bludgeoned with a brick in an unprovoked attack.

The 26-year-old Clayton West Cricket Club player is on the high dependency unit at Leeds General Infirmary after being knocked out outside a nightclub.

He had been with a group of players on a night out in Leeds following a game when he was assaulted in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

2) Move to get new Woolworths in Huddersfield

A BID to re-open the huge empty Woolworths store in Huddersfield was revealed today.

Council officials have confirmed they have been in touch with a group bidding to find a new use for 200 of the retail giant’s empty shops.

3) Huddersfield students win rent battle

STUDENTS took their greedy landlord to court – and won.

The eight University of Huddersfield students were unwilling to sit back and let their former landlord take their money.

In 2007, each student had paid him £200 as a deposit to rent their Highfields house.

But when they moved out last year the landlord wouldn’t return the £1,600 – and even asked for more.

The angry students refused to accept the deal, took up their case through the Small Claims Court in Huddersfield County Court and won.

4) Two held on Huddersfield street theft bids

TWO men were arrested after a spate of car and motorbike robbery attempts during morning rush hour.

The suspects in their 20s are alleged to have tried to steal vehicles from motorists as they pulled up at traffic lights.

5) Beautiful South gig at Holmfirth

THE Beautiful South are coming to Holmfirth.

After splitting two years ago, the band announced in January this year that they had reformed as the New Beautiful South.

Now, they have scheduled to play at Holmfirth Picturedrome on August 21.
