Web Forum: Town talk

TOWN have made a very encouraging start to their League One campaign this time round, but there’s always room for improvement.

jkboots wondered: “Paul Scholes For Town?

“Well both he and Alan Smith have played their last games (for some time anyway) for their respective clubs.

“Both are no longer needed at Man United or Newcastle United.

“Both recognise they have to come down a division or two.

“If we didn’t take them Notts County definitely will sign at least one or t’other. Are they right for Town? Strength and opposing team softeners in midfield, we certainly do lack and it’s my belief that none of our current roster will provide this even if they play together till doomsday.

“But hey I’m not so sure either Scholes or Smith would suit our club or indeed be manageable by rookie Clark notwithstanding the wages.

“Who with experience will town bring in to sort this endless midfield deficiency out?”

stpaulterrier was bemused: ‘endless midfield deficiency?’ We are one of the highest goal scoring teams in the country, our strikers have had the best service I have seen in years.

“I am amazed at how negative some Town fans are, we are 4th in a very strong division within striking distance of an automatic spot.

“We are only seven games in and already the naysayers are out.

“Ok Saturday we were poor by this season’s high standards but we aren’t going to be world beaters every week. Even Ternent got 15 matches.”

jkboots responded with: “Even Clark does not know his best midfield and attack formation and when he thinks he does and trys it, it creaks.

“It’s common knowledge he’s not quite happy with certain aspects of his team and formation and we the fans, not unnaturally, pick up on it.

“Some of us of course do feel we still lack some real steel in midfield. Someone who’ll put his foot in, a biter, an opposition softener, a ball winner and controller and, after he’s had time to look up for half a second, a distributor.”
