Web Forum: Weather chat

HERE’S a selection of some more weather chat on the Examiner’s forum.

markmyword49 informed us: “I heard Hillary Benn, the Environment Secretary, on Radio 4 this morning. It appears the blame game has begun. According to him it’s up to individual councils to decide on their gritting and ploughing policy. Oh yes?

“Until now I’ve thought Benn was a better than average Cabinet Minister who could be relied on to be as truthful as any government minister can be. Now he’s trying to sidestep the responsibility his department has for instructing councils on ‘best practice’.”

holly quipped: “Saw a very strange object outside of the window today. A ROAD. Thanks very much gritters.”

loolylag joined the forum ranks : “Hi All! I live in the US and have been enjoying reading all the posts. We too have an unusually bad winter. Yes, they do make tires/tyres that have better grip in the snow.

“Most US states now require them on cars. They are also year round types – not put on for winter only. Here is a link that explains the different types.

“I’m sure they are available in the UK? Personally I know little about cars – and hate driving until the roads have been well salted.”

despondent warned: “Beware everyone, the PM is strongly denying we are in danger of having interruptions to our gas supply due to excessive usage as the cold weather continues. Knowing how good Members of Parliament are at double talk, take this as a warning.

Regarding the salt situation, nobody took a blind bit of notice after last year’s fiasco.

“The opportunity was there to do logical forward planning but reliance was placed on notoriously incorrect long range weather forecasts, the same ones that foretold of a barbecue summer.

“What will winter 2010 have in store?

Britain is waiting for salt deliveries from the Continent, yet our own salt is being ordered by Germany. What’s going on here?”
