1) HIGHLY-PAID managers are among the casualties of Kirklees Council’s job cuts.
The council plans to make 1,500 of its 11,200 non-school staff redundant in the next three years.
It’s believed 13 of those losing their jobs will be senior managers.
2) HUDDERSFIELD Town owner Dean Hoyle is reported to have brought in specialist staff for a possible sale of his Card Factory business.
Mr Hoyle and his wife, Janet, were reported to have appointed KPMG to advise on a sale.
The 480-store retailer could fetch up to £400m, observers believe.
3) A SCHOOLGIRL told her teachers she had been raped by a middle-aged man who gave her a sexual nickname, a court heard.
David Bentley, of Bath Street, Huddersfield, was accused of twice raping the Bradford girl when she was 15.
The man, a father, appeared at the trial at Bradford Crown Court after pleading not guilty. He was cleared of one count of rape and the jury is deliberating on a second rape charge today.
4) POLICE vowed to crack down on sports fans who park illegally to attend games at the Galpharm Stadium.
Motorists who cause problems by blocking access to nearby properties or obstructing emergency service vehicles could be fined or have their cars towed away.
5) A BABY tragically died of an infection at Huddersfield’s new birth centre less than an hour after being born.
Little Tily Ann Bray was born at 39 weeks at the Family Birth Centre at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary in the early hours of September 19 last year.
Midwives had considered transferring mother Tracey Bray, 34, and dad Stuart to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax at about 2.20am.
