Web Forum: Town talk

HUDDERSFIELD Town’s season seems to be blowing hot and cold so far and everyone on the Examiner’s Town forum has the chance to have their say. Log on to www.examiner.co.uk and give us your views.

Mo2008 sounded a tad deflated: “Once again so much anticipation. Three new players named in the team, but what a let-down. Eccleston has pace but no better than Novak, Heffernan showed early promise but seemed to fade later on due to his injury. And as for Trotman, as far as I am concerned a far better player was left on the bench. Of course, I refer to Nathan Clarke. Trotman is big, granted, but he was worse than Nathan on a bad day. Lee Clarke said he wasn’t at his best today – you’re telling me.

“And what about midfield again? Anthony Kay is not on form but still keeps his place, young Tom was OK, but Berrett not even in the squad? Perhaps I am being a little cynical here but I see the same as last year. Ex-academy players kept on the sidelines or loaned out and loanees not good enough for their own teams being given first team places at their expense.”

jacko1950 had seen it before: “Funny how many times it happens. They finally get an away win, then the home form slumps, plus the fact Carlisle are a bit of a bogey team and also plus the fact the expectation levels of the new signings meant there was a general expectancy that we were going to slaughter Carlisle. But if you miss open goals like we do ...

“However, we got a point which previously we wouldn’t have. We can and will play better. “Games are coming thick and fast now and all entirely winnable. One defeat in the last nine league games is OK, no need to panic!

“After Brighton we can beat Swindon – then five away games out of six – two games a week. It’s all to play for.’’

Realist was being, well, realistic: “Whether Town can play worse or not I don’t know, but Swindon are a far better team than Carlisle so they’re going to have to play a lot better. And it’s not going to get easier at home in the coming months. The last two home matches were a chance to get some points before the really tough games and build some confidence. How can they go into playing all the top teams expecting to win when they’ve been so ineffective against weaker opposition recently?

“The next couple of weeks will tell us a lot about Town’s season, I think.”
