PLUCK is the new way for our readers to comment on Examiner stories on the website. here’s a selection...

StephBcommented on: Senior councillor predicts 2,000 job losses at Kirklees “..Clr Light said Kirklees should follow the example of other councils that had reduced their middle management.

“A very good idea. Too many well-paid people passing bits of paper (and responsibility) up and down the chain. Many of these will cost as much money as three ‘coalface’ workers, and unfortunately, three times as much to get rid of!

“Here’s an idea! Look at the number of ‘customer interface’ workers in any given department, and those actually providing some essential service, and see if there actually “ENOUGH of them! Then see how far up the chain of command management support is actually needed, then chop off everyone above that! All the way up! I bet you could save the necessary amount with a quarter of the jobs going – maybe even afford to reinstate some of those already got rid of, and ACTUALLY IMPROVE SERVICES! (No, it’s an impossible idea, isn’t it?)”

And also on: Villagers vow to battle Birdsedge wind farm plan“Nimbies! How many tourists does Birdsedge attract in a year, and how much money does that add to the local economy? Sure, we all want to press a switch and have the light come on! But always we have those who object to almost any development as long as it isn’t directly and solely for their own use/convenience! How many of the objectors have built any sort of a building or extension in that area, regardless of who else’s view it has impinged upon? Come on folks, let’s start to think ‘community and country’ again...”

prettyfly86 on:Thousands of Huddersfield's potholes filled in – but the number of damaged cars rises.“What about the potholes they filled in quickly, which have now opened up again, in some cases even bigger than they were before? Are they going to go back to these?”

plum1999fumed about:Fixby grandfather’s outrage after pin found in newborn’s Mothercare trousers

“Stories like this make me cross. What happened to the responsibility of parents to ensure the safety of their children? It seems that people need someone to blame for everything these days. When my children were babies I used to wash and iron anything they wore before use.”
