pgt67 reminisced: Whitley Beaumont campsite in Huddersfield threatened with closure: “As a former member of the Scouting Association I have spent many a good time up at Whitley Beaumont under canvas and it would be a great shame if it was to fold. I remember sliding down the embankment to where the camp fires were had on large plastic sheets covered in soap – probably couldn’t do that now due to health and safety – a massive game of Monopoly covering the whole of the site and, of course, the ‘scary’ trip to Black Dick’s Tower ruin with the scary tales to boot. Happy times!’’

debs1 was disappointed after reading of: Huddersfield heritage groups say ‘no’ to Castle Hill hotel plan: “What a shame if the proposed hotel does not go through. I have been visiting the site since I was a child and now take my children but they had the pleasure of visiting the hotel only once and then it was pulled down. I would like to be able to go to the new one when it is built in all weathers as the fire in winter was really nice.’’

roan242 added: “As a Newsome lad, like many other thousands of people both as a boy and as an adult I have spent hours walking up to, playing around and drinking at the Castle Hill pub while looking down on to Hall Bower Cricket Club. I get the impression that many people before me would have done the same thing? So why now would having a pub back on the site to encourage people from far and wide to bring money to the area cause so much damage to the hill?’’

brista fumed: Leader: Free parking passes for MPs: “MPs are employed by the UK population. Most workers do not get free or subsidised parking and I do not see why an MP should get one, let alone two (no doubt when they park at Westminster it is free too, or if they travel by train, the train fare is paid for by the taxpayer). I actually see MPs as mere mortals like me and should be subject to the same rules of society that I am expected to observe.’’

steven_colbert commented on: Women in cricket lecture at University of Huddersfield: “Stop saying they’re all male chauvinists.

Women’s cricket is not big because the majority of women don’t like cricket. We can’t force women to like or play the game.’’
