1) A MOTHER had her cheek bitten off trying to defend her baby from a bull terrier.

The woman, Waheed Akhtar, was rushed to Bradford Royal Infirmary, which specialises in plastic surgery, after the attack at Upper Mount Street, Thornton Lodge.

A dog thought to have been responsible for the attack was seized on Friday. It is of the banned pit bull breed.

2) FOUR people were charged with the murder of Cowcliffe shopkeeper Gurmail Singh.

Mr Singh, 63, died following an incident at his shop on Saturday, February 20.

Police have charged 20-year-old Muawaz Khalid from Crosland Moor and three 17-year-olds, two of whom are from Fartown and a third from Bradley.

3) HUNDREDS of police officers descended on Huddersfield for Saturday’s huge derby game between Town and Leeds United – but they had no real trouble to tackle.

The huge operation was meticulously planned to ensure that the match at the Galpharm Stadium went without any trouble.

4) A TEACHING assistant was suspended – after mocking a crying four-year-old on Facebook.

Yasmine Judge posted a message on the social networking site saying she found it ‘funny’ when little Faye McDonnell burst into tears after being punished.

5) Police were carrying out a week of visits across West Yorkshire to find those who have evaded justice.

“Initiatives such as this are the cornerstone of interrupting offending behaviour and this is one of many operations spearheaded by the police that aim to bring offenders to justice,” said a spokesperson.

“Known criminals are a blight on the communities of West Yorkshire and we take positive action to get people back before the courts.”
