HuddersFax_resident commented on this Examiner story: Dozens of homes in Lockwood upgraded after £700,000 investment

“With 75 private homes (owned or rented?) in the areas why hasn’t the council issued enforcement notices for the owners to tidy the area – even if it was restricted to the property and gardens etc?

“I would suspect that the majority of the houses are rented accommodation making it a business area not a private matter.”

whatyadoinsucka was livid: “Is it any wonder why the public sector is in dire straights? Waste after waste of public funds with no accountability.

“I’m so grateful to the Examiner of reporting daily waste.

“House prices are far lower in these areas thus mortgages and rentals are much cheaper, therefore the residents in theory should have more money to improve the property.

“I pay over £100 a month in council tax, I need new windows, doors and other upgrades – what is the likelihood of me getting these improvements?

“Once again I embarrassed to reside in the UK where the hardworking are not rewarded.”

WobblyRach was a tad calmer: “All done with the best of intentions I’m sure, but this really wasn’t thought through.

“Not only has it taken funding away from social housing where it’s really desperately needed, but also just watch those private landlords hike up the rents and boot out the poor now.

“Most homes that are in a state is because they’re unoccupied, despite there being a huge demand for cheap housing.

“Just look at the flats that have just been torn down in Moldgreen. Stop right to buy now and start reinvesting in social housing, not the private sector.”

Although crystal wasn’t impressed: “Just the same waste when Kirklees spent taxpayers money on the so called Thermal Rendering Scheme at Bradley for owner occupier and landlord properties.

“Then they tried to coax the rest of the owners to pay £10,000 for the cheap upgrade. Or was it all a council slip up and it shouldn’t have happened in the first place?”
