OLD soldier George Woodrow has had his car written off – because of ‘stupid’ vandals. They blocked up the exhaust pipe on his old-style Vauxhall Corsa with foam, causing the engine to overheat.
And now the 82-year-old Korean veteran – who is battling cancer – has been forced to scrap the car, costing him £2,000. It means he is virtually confined to his Lockwood home, as he has trouble walking.
Mr Woodrow is having treatment at St James’s Hospital, Leeds, for cancer in his lungs and prostate. He has been left ‘sickened’ by the attack, which happened on the driveway of his home in Moorend Road, Lockwood.
“Why anyone should do such a thing is beyond me. It’s just so stupid,” said widower Mr Woodrow.
Rutland probably speaks for many: “Another fine example of the sort of mindless idiot that inhabits Huddersfield to inflict misery on others. Why would anybody in their ‘right’ mind do this sort of thing?”
That sentiment was echoed by RSM: “Mindless vandalism by idiotic, useless people. They pick on the weak, old and defenceless because they don’t have the spine to pick on people that can defend themselves.
“Oh, but hang on, if you were to retaliate or intervene then it would be you that had your collar felt, as in this country the law favours the criminal.”
HuddersFax_resident has had a thought: “While I initially felt sorry for Mr Woodrow, I began to think – what sort of vandal carries a can of expanding foam around with them and attacks only one car?
“Why no other cars or no other quick spurts of foam on bushes, benches or over car paint work?
“It seems very strange just to pick one car out and squirt it in a place that no one can see.”
Mameluke , although annoyed, seems to be in a forgiving mood: “Teenage boys all go through a phase whereby they entertain themselves by inconveniencing others.
“Some never grow out of it. Remember Jeremy Beadle?
“I do not suppose the idiots intended to wreck the car but it would be good if they could be caught and made to pay for the damage.
“Pigs might fly. Thanks for the warning anyway. Sluggish motor? Check your exhaust pipe!”
