2. A 24-YEAR-OLD driver had to be cut free from his vehicle after he lost control at the notorious Alpine Corner bend near Honley.

The crash happened in Woodhead Road close to the junction with Magdale when the Peugeot 307 hit the central bollards and spun out of control.

No other vehicles were involved.

Fire crews from Huddersfield were called to the scene and helped release the driver who was suffering from suspected spinal injuries.

Edna Broadley, 65, drove her Vauxhall Astra from her Halifax home and crashed in Manchester Road, Marsden, which was when police were called, Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court was told.

Prosecutor Paul Ramsey said Broadley had admitted drinking three glasses of wine with food before making the 40-minute journey on both residential roads and the motorway despite having a flat tyre.

Former Huddersfield Giants winger Greg Johnson, of Newsome Road, Newsome, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and grievous bodily harm following the attack on Belinda Kelly in Yates’ bar in Huddersfield.

5. A FAMILY of football thugs was behind bars after a violent attack at Huddersfield Town’s play-off match against Peterborough United in May.

Paul Barnett, 47, and his three sons Jordan Paul Barnett, 29, Joel Barnett, 21 and Jotham Darryl Barnett, 20 pleaded guilty to affray following violence at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground that left two stewards with broken noses and another fan injured.
