LINDLEY councillor calls for dogs to be banned from Huddersfield playing fields:
RogerB: This is a good move and I hope it is approved – but why do Kirklees Council refuse to provide dog waste bins anywhere within Kirklees?
Dog owners should pick up after their dogs. It’s disgusting and disrespectful not to do so but providing dog waste bins like most other councils do would give no excuse to the irresponsible not to comply.
“Then fine them hard and often if they don’t clean up.
Also, anyone can report incidents of dog fouling to Kirklees dog warden for action.”
Intsticks: “There are no dog waste bins round my area.
“Indeed, all the bins say ‘no dog waste’ on! A great way to encourage people to pick up!”
Rogerb: “The dog warden has been very supportive and will follow up on reported incidents of owners not picking up.
“The success of this is largely in the hands of residents to report and carry on reporting, no point just moaning about it.
“And before anyone comments, I have two dogs and always carry bags with me and pick up.
“It’s a pity the council does not provide anywhere to put the bags.”
Birkbyproud: “Even if all owners pick up after their dogs it cannot be right to end up face down where the mess once sat.
“Picking up does not disinfect.”
Magdale: “I have two dogs and agree they should be banned from playing fields, even if their owners clean up after them.”
RSM: “As a handler of two working dogs I wholeheartedly support this move. However, would this be a blanket ban or would allowances be made for working dogs to be on these sites during the course of operational duties?”
Birkbyproud: “RSM – What work do your dogs do on playing fields ... cut the grass or paint white lines?
Intsticks: “As usual, punish the law-abiding to catch the inconsiderate.
“If Salendine Nook is a problem, ban it there (or build a fence). If they bring in a ban for allotments I will flout it as several owners bring dogs to my allotment and I have never seen any dog waste there.”
