CAMPAIGNERS speak out as the Huddersfield LDF plan takes a big step closer:
Huddsproperty: “Interesting watching on Tuesday night. I found the gentleman on the front row who commented on the housing aspect to be incredibly engaging and was the only one who didn’t have an air of nimbyism about him and his point about the housing quotation were compelling. I also thought the team on the back, Jonathan Dunbavin etc, put some compelling arguments in about the Grimescar Valley site. More importantly, any queries raised by the conservationists around this development were pretty much answered in their 15-minute slot. Roll on the 23rd ... and all the people complaining!”
ckinder79: “Northern Gateway – what a joke. It’s OK saying this mass build on Green Belt would create jobs ... how? What happens when they have finished building the houses? Any retail element of development will just be moving employment from the town centre.
“Labour need reminding who they work for. We only have to look at the mess they have made of society. When is Kirklees going to realise that they need to sort the town centre out? They need to monitor the type of shops we have as all we seem to have is pound shops, coffee shops and cafes etc.
“I refuse to shop in Huddersfield any more. I take my custom to places where I have a choice. It would be interesting to know if development is planned where the councillors live and how that affects the way they think. It’s always Labour that seems to want to tarmac England.”
Huddsproperty: “From looking at the retail side of things they only intend to build shops for the residential element. If you listened to the chap on Tuesday night and actually looked at the documents provided, the jobs aren’t to be really made in the service sector. Their intention is to create a high tech manufacturing/science park linked with the university to try and keep some of the graduates in the town when completing their studies. Not overly sold on the residential aspect but for me the commercial side is well thought out and would improve the type of jobs in the town beyond public sector/service sector in which about 80% are currently employed.”
Magdale: “It’s not only Labour politicians who have run things down....it is ALL of them. They work for themselves and not the voters. The voters are only of interest on polling day.”
