Web Forum: Top tales

HERE are the top 10 tales from www.examiner.co.uk last week.

1. A HEARTLESS person abandoned a pet outside a pub just moments after it had given birth.

Shocked customers at the Ford Inn at Holmfirth found the Staffordshire cross tightly chained to a tree on a freezing night.

Kathy Trout, of West Yorkshire Dog Rescue, has been caring for the animal, who she named Rainbow.

She spoke out against the ‘exceptional’ cruelty of whoever left her chained up.

2. A SHEEPRIDGE woman alleged to have 88 pellets of cocaine in her stomach is being held in Antigua in the Caribbean.

Pauline Edwards was charged with unlawful possession, intent to transfer and attempting to export the contraband.

Edwards, 49, of Well Grove, Sheepridge, was stopped by narcotics police as she passed through the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua in May.

The Antigua Observer reported that Edwards was arrested on suspicion of cocaine exportation and was X-rayed at a medical centre on the island.

3. A JUDGE told a man that ‘violence is at the core of his personality’ as he jailed him for stamping on a toddler.

Daniel Joyce, 29, was sentenced to 13 years in prison at Bradford Crown Court.

Joyce, of Bankfield Road, Longroyd Bridge, was accused of grievous bodily harm with intent for stamping on the stomach of the boy when he was just two years and five months old.

4. A MAN who sped away from police in a stolen car while nearly three times over the drink drive limit has been caught and jailed.

Zahid Hassan, 22, drove at double the speed limit through the residential streets of Lockwood.

He had no insurance, no licence and had been drinking vodka. Hassan, who had no link to the original theft of the car, was caught following a dramatic chase by an unmarked police car.

5. A £6 MILLION scheme to fit solar panels on 1,000 council houses has been abandoned by Kirklees Council.

And council leader Mehboob Khan blamed the coalition Government’s ‘broken promise’ for the halt.

Feed-in tariffs (FITs) – by which households receive a guaranteed income for the electricity they produce from renewable sources such as solar panels – are to be reduced from December 12.
