PARENTS blocked the road outside a Huddersfield school in a protest against dangerous parkers.
The group barricaded George Street outside Lindley junior and infant schools to stop parents driving down it.
Some parents who were running late to pick up their children attempted to get through but were stopped by the angry crowd.
Birkbyproud wrote: “Parking around all schools is an issue because most parents are too bone idle to walk their equally lazy cherubs to school.
“I used to walk my children 500 yards to school and a good number of my neighbours used to pass me in their cars ... mad!”
anneb added: “It’s a public road. One option is to put markers/signs to say no dropping off/parking for use of school purposes. Then have a camera capable of reading registration numbers facing oncoming traffic, then fine those who break the rule (people living on the street would be exempt).
“But then you would have same problem somewhere further on the road.”
But NorwegianBlue didn’t think the problem justified the action: “It is, as Anneb says, a public road and nobody other than the relevant authority has any right to decide who can drive down it. If parents are parking or driving illegally then the police should be on hand to prosecute them. This has been tried successfully at other schools.
“The problem with this sort of action is that, while it is done for all the right reasons it can lead to serious problems.
“What would happen if the protesters had damaged somebody’s car? A prosecution and a criminal record?
“What if one of the protesters had been injured? But possibly the worst thing to come out of this is the example that this sort of rabble rousing will set for the children.
“Do these people really want to teach their kids that the best way to deal with somebody doing something you don’t like is to pick a fight with them?”
Rutland agreed: “It is not up to parents to decide who will and will not use a public road but it is up to them to see that their children are safe and to teach them about the dangers of roads wherever they are.
“Yes, some drivers are dangerous when near schools especially those in larger vehicles who can’t see children behind them or because the vehicle is simply too big for them to control. But if it is taxed and insured they still have a right to be on a public road no matter what some of the parents think.
“A rabble in the middle of the road is not the answer, no matter how right those doing it feel. And it sets a very poor example to their children.”
